For the 3rd time in its history, Karver is delighted to announce its victory in the 2024 DAME Award international design and innovation competition, in the deck equipment category.
This prestigious award, presented at the opening of the METSTRADE equipment trade fair in Amsterdam, recognizes excellence in design and innovation in the maritime industry.
This year it is the KJS12, an eco-designed and smart clutch, which won over the jury. Recognized for its elegance, performance, innovative character and accessibility, the KJS12 perfectly embodies Karver’s desire to develop deck equipment.
The KJS12 is the 3rd product of their new Shipyards / General Public offer. After the KRS reefing furlers and the KBS blocks, the KJS12 jammer meets the 4 requirements of this product category :
– an attractive price,
– an eco-designed product,
– a real aesthetics
– and a product that brings real benefits to its users.
An eco-designed product
The choice of cast stainless steel was made by comparing the environmental impacts of stainless steel, aluminum or titanium. The lost wax technique allows real savings in material and energy. When you are used to offering lightweight products, stainless steel is a surprising choice, but its resistance also allows you to reduce its dimensions. Thus, with equal resistance, a stainless steel product can be lighter than its competitors. The use of less raw material coupled with sustainability logically makes the KJS12 a product with less environmental impact.
A very clever jammer from ocean racing
In just a few years, the brand’s first KJC 3-jaw high-load jammer has established itself as the market benchmark as the jammer that never lets go. More than 130 of these jammers are currently sailing on the 40 Vendée Globe boats.
The KJS12 takes over certain elements from its big brother :
– The possibility of very quickly extracting the jammer from its support to clean it easily.
– The absence of a top handle which frees up space at the piano level and allows the use of the remote jammer
– The design of the jaws is particularly optimized for holding and respecting the rope, 2 on this model.
– The universal principle of corner design : the more you pull, the more it gets stuck !
It should also be noted
– The ability to easily identify jammers from each other by one of the colored triggers,
– dimensions allowing standard exchange with its competitors
– and the free provision of plywood cutting plans.
An elegant and efficient jammer
This return to stainless steel combined with a modern design makes the KJS12 a beautiful object that will fit harmoniously into both modern and more traditional deck plans. Many fans of classic sails are already interested in this newcomer.
Whatever its qualities, the most important thing is that this jammer remains efficient and this is indeed the case. The KJS12 withstands 1.2 T of load for ropes of 8 to 12 mm. Its principle of double movable jaws avoids friction.
International recognition
THE DAME Award represents the consecration for Karver’s research and development team, which works tirelessly to innovate and offer solutions adapted to the current challenges of the nautical industry. This award strengthens its position among the world leaders in deck equipment. In recent years, their products have also received numerous “Special Mentions” for more advanced products.
At a time when sailboat manufacturers are looking for the best value for money, new features and increased customer experience, the KJS12 is an evidence. This Dame Award only confirms it.
